First came Cyberpunk. High tech and low life. Then Steampunk -- a victorian riff on cyberpunk. Then dieselpunk. Then decopunk... and the further we drifted, the more people seemed to forget about the "punk" part. Now, *-punk indicates a genre mash-up, with no underclass outcast element at all. It's time to put the resistance back in our fiction -- put the punk back in *-punk.
